I would go with the 620LP, you should be able to start about 7,000lbs and go up to 9600 or even 10600 in the farm stock class. The 720 would also be good, you could get it down to about 7500-8000, but a friends got a 730N gas and he doesnt start till 9600lbs. because that tractor just wont hook up in a lighter class. So if it was me i would go with the 620LP.

The best John Deere pulling tractor i ever saw was an 830 at Tunica. Full pulled 2nd or 3rd gear in the 10,000 modified class(4mph cut tires)beats some big molines, farmalls, and other john deeres, he could have easily took it out the door....when he parked on the side it was bouncing up and down pretty good

It depends on where you want to pull in the weight divisions. if you are looking at pulling light and nothaving to stay till the end of the pull to hook then i would probably go with the 420 lp as you should be able to get down into the 3500 or 4000 easily. If you want to go heavier then got with the 720. They are real strong tractors and pull really good. A's abd B's normally have to have some work done to be really competitive even is farm stock classes. However if everyone has to use a stock hitch and stuff like that then most any of them will let you have fun and that is the name of the game anyway.
