Hi, folks. I was wondering if anyone has tried Denny's camshaft in a Farmall M - 450.? They claim it'll make 85 horses. Are there many other cams offered for a stock RPM range? What about advancing a stock cam by one tooth? You guys are the experts, let me have it!! Thanks, FD

JT Richardson ground a cam for my M a couple years ago. I used a degree wheel to check it and 1 tooth was too much advance. I ended up making an offset key to get it right.

I highly recomend JT Richardson and the use of a degree wheel.

saw one of dennys kits in an M not sure what internal. was told cam and over bore. with stock manifolds it was around 55 at 540. if you leaned harder it fell fast.

85,, no. 70-75 maybe. I tuned a M about 3 months ago that had the full denny's engine. it was a 306, no stroke, carb, ign, header, piston kit. It ran pretty good after tinkering with it, but it did not have enough compression to run the big carb, and header intake and cam. It had about 160 psi of compression and was 72 hp. I would belive that if the compression was over 200, it may be 80-85. My opinion on putting in re ground cams in low compression engines is a waste of time. Unless it is designed for that particular engine. When putting on big cfm carbs, on low compression engines, it has the tendancy to drop the vaccum pressure in the intake and head. Same thing with a big intake as well. For a moderate div 2-3 tractor, with no stroker, a stock intake, and carb, with a jet change will be the best bet. Unless you have 180-220 psi, then the big carbs, and intakes and different cams will do some good. Just my opinion, seen it on the dyno. Chads
