MMs have the most options when it comes to building an engine. I would say a GVI or GB would probably be your best option depending on what class you are in. Interchangeable parts are the key.....BIG PARTS. 6cyl are 425, 451, 504, 585, 605, and the monster 800. All fairly interchangeable. But I warn you I am biased...my blood is gold. Case builds a pretty mean tractor too. A little harder to build a motor, but tough machines.

A big Oliver with a detroit is the best if you ask me. S99 GM, 990, 1900, 1950 GM. Pulls hard and sounds like nothing else

Do you really think you are going to get a single answer with this question? Best thing to do is ressearch results because whatever anyone pulls with...that is going to be the best! of course, it will be fun to read the follow ups and see how much trash is thrown! :)

if your gonna stay in the "stock" class you can go with an Oliver 880 or 990 also. I have heard the 88's are good up to about 8000 but I haven't weighted mine up tht much yet. I do know that up to 6500 I never run out of power and usually do pretty good. Alot of it depends on balance reading the track tires and luck.

If your gonan pull in the open classes or hot rod I would go with about anything with a 6 cylinder. I don't have nothing agaist the others really but it is alot easier to build a 6 banger than the others.

The larger/heavier tractor is more difficult to tow for the average Joe. So the heavier classes will give you a better chance at a ribbon. A 5000lb trailer/tractor class III is the limit for most pullers so the 2500/3500/4500 lb classes are busiest. 10,000lb trailer+tractor class IV trailer/haul vehicle certainly limits the class sizes from 5000lb to 7000lb. Only locals or people with money to spend pull in the 8000lb and over classes where a class "A" trailer and licence is required.

Really depends on what class you would like to pull in, what tire you would like to run, division, or row crop or standard. These are the things that you will have to consider. The standards are good to get up into the 10000 and up. I pull a 1962 Farmall 560 in the 7500-8500, and the 8500-10000, and I can beat the 730's, and the 620's. If you want a standard, I would have to recommend buying a 660 diesel, but if you can find a gas jog, run fluid in the tires, 18 inch drawbar, and if you want to spend the money put a combine motor in it, or an 806 gas motor and run the 2400 rpm's. 18-4-36's would pull good, but if you build it right, go with the 20's. Have to take it easy with the torque though. A W-9 would be another good standard puller. With over 4000 pounds of torque, she would pull good if she is bored out. A 620 John Deere in our area can compete with a 4020, and at the end, they call it a tie cause they can't beat eachother. If you pull over 13500, buy a tractor that has a strong enough rear end to hold the strain. Good Luck!!!

Boy, I would think if a W9 made that much torque, everybody would be pulling one! With 4000 pounds of torque, that equals over 1100 HP at 1500 rpm's! I didn't realize my Super WD9 ran that good, I always thought it was a little gutless.

I have heard of a W-9 with 3700 pounds of torque before. Better make sure that you know the formula to give you proof.

Yes, that is what I meant. The amount of torque that is at the drawbar of a W9.

Something that can legally use or fit a 18.4x38 Firestone 23 degree Traction Field and Road. Find tires that are old, hard, not rotten and have the tread worn 1/2 off. Maybe some of it worn off while accidentally spinning backwards on concrete. Set drawbar at max height and tinker with length while moving front rear ballast. Keep drawbar short as possible to limit bending and hitch height drop. Winning may not require cheating but does require carefully reading the rule book for things not mentioned.

I've seen real good 730 diesels beat the socks off the big standards even if it was nothing more than good balance. Take that same good 730 and juice it up a little then their no problem.

I beat Rs and 830s with my W9 and Super WD9 IHs. All comes down to weight and balance.

I would love to say a farmall but I think the best Big tractor I have ever seen pull is either an oliver 99 with the 3-71 detroit or a moline gbd. My first choice would be the oliver An 830 can't even come close to neither one.

JD's are for show and tell for school children.
They would'nt hold a candle to a GVI MM.
2 cyl. = put put
6 cyl = POWER!
If you don't believe me, watch Brad Begamens MM
There is'nt a 2 cyl deere that compares to Brad's
Moline.

A John Deere 830, if your gonna run in the stock classes i think that would be your best way to go. I have never seen one power out.

it dont matter much what color as long as you got a lot of green (money) to put in it that can make any color pull good
