I am interested in building a M motor on a 264 or 281 block with a 4.25 bore and 6 stroke. Can anyone give me a P/N of a ready made 4.25 piston that will work with the standard M rod and the crank stroked to 6 inches? This is my first time building this kind of engine so any and all help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I really appreciate all the ideas guys. I've been doing some checking too and looks loke a JD 3020 gas piston might come close to working. There is also a Case 4.375 piston that comes close. Will any of the big farmall blocks stand boring to 4.375? Thanks again!

denny's carb shop sells a 6" stroke crank kit complete with Arias pistons with a special pin location for you to use stock rods. The killer is the advertised price of $2995. He is claiming 120HP with his pulling carb and ignition. Anyone here tried one of these? I know the forged aluminum Arias pistons might be overkill generally ground to tolerances for applications that see 8000 RPM's. But if you want the best this might be it. He is using a 4.310 bore yeilding 350 cu inches.

M-W makes a piston sleeve kit for 5 and 3/4 stroke and 4 1/4 bore using stock rods. All you need to do is stroke crank 1/2 in. and bore 264 or 281 block[281 has more meat] io fit sleeves. With other minor modifications it makes a nice running 326 cid engine.Kit # is 179 I beleive.

Hey JRR. What if I used the M&W 1/2 in stoker piston with a 3/4 crank and just offset the wrist-pin bushing 1/8 in? And you say this piston uses a sleeve? Will it work in a bored 248 block or do I have to have a 264/281? If this would work who sells these pistons? And guys thanks again for all your input. I probably don't need 4 7/8 or 5 for my "stock" M. I think those big bores go into the water jacket and have to be sleeved and offset etc.

M blocks are being bored to 4.875 inches and holding up.

you got to be at 4 7/8 to be a strong M. Yes, 5" is being done, but no reliability. If going 5", heck go 5.25 or 5.5 or 6?!?!?

Chevy 409 pistons I'm told will work.

FF, may I suggest calling Lemmons in Rushville. They can certainly point you in the right direction or they can build what you are looking for. By the way, they are making billet crankshafts for M's. They are expensive but they are professional.

I know that Lemmons is probably the top farmall engine builder in the country, but I've got a guy local that can fix my crankshaft if I can find a piston that will work. I don't think much clearancing on the block and rods would be necessary.

Do you need the 4.25" bore for a 6" stroke? I really don't know but if you can go with the 4 - 4 1/8" bore and still allow the rods to clear the block you might be able to save a few bucks and a lot piston searching. Maybe I should stay with the Deere's but it is an idea.

As far as pistons, I have had real good luck with Ross Pistons. I recently built and engine for a Super C and I sent them the original piston and told them I wanted one that will fit that pin and to be a certain size. They also needed to know what type of top you want on the piston. It costed me about $100 per hole but I am really satisfied. Hope this helps.
