Champion platinum truck plug #4130. Nice hot plug, And has a longer electrode to get the spark closer to the center of the chamber. Most Autozone, and NAPA have them, I have ran the same set for about 3 seasons now, I check the regularly, but have found no reason to relpace them, Get a set, and you will see what I mean. Chad

Would you recomend this plug for an "M" engine with 310# of compression?

I thought these plugs might be too hot. Do you gap the plugs for this engine at .032? Are you running an MSD unit? I am using champion D15Y.

.032, with an Accel super coil. I have used MSD before, it really does not help the engine, as far as making HP, Heat range is a mid range plug. I gap the plugs a little more, to give it a little hotter spark, and for the rpm range, 2400rpm. That is the only reason or changing the gap. Electronic ignition will do more than an MSD as far as changing the amount of spark delivered to the plug, MSD just pulsates the spark, instead of one solid "Zap" it has 3-5 zaps during a ingnition cycle. Hope this helps. ChadS

Chad, would you happen to have the Autolite cross reference for this plug? Does it have the correct seat for the head? Thanks. Mike

I have checked,, Autolite does not have this style of plug in their assortment. It has a tapered bevel at the base of the plug, I put a gasket off of another plug, and go. I have checked them for leakage, sprayed soap and water on it, no bubbles,, Everyone does not like champions,, I know,, but this plug is good. I would not steer any one wrong.. Go get a set!! Try them!! You will not be disapointed. Just my opinion, Chad

Hey ChadS I have been using the champion 4130 for about 5 years now. Have had good luck with them.
I for one hated champion plugs until a man from champion told me to try them. I have tried champion plugs in cars, motorcycles & snowmobiles and wouldn't take a set of champions for this application for free. This 4130 is a newer design (Cooper Automotive) and isn't really a champion designed plug. The man from champion told me that champion builds plugs for all the major plug manufactures. Who ever quotes the lowest price. So you could be running a plug made by champion and dont even know it!

My experience with Champion plugs is the work great when the are new but they start to missfire after very little use. I tried AC's and Autolites and they last 10 time as long.

True with the average, ordinary spark plug. this is no where near a stock plug,, when you see the electrode,, you will see. Most plugs do not come past the cyl head casting and in fact, it shrouds it, letting carbon, and debris get in to the electrode, then they foul out. We searched and searched,, and finally found these #4130, has a nice long electrode, that moves the spark kernal away from the head, and into the center of the chamber of the head. Compression, and the power stroke naturally cleans the electrode, thus, less fouling, and a more true plug reading, to indicate rich or lean conditions. Split fire had the right idea, with the split electrode plug, but,, they did not make the plug any better than a stock plug as far as the conductor materials,, if they did make the split fire in a platinum plug,, they would be the best out there, and be worth the price they ask for them,, I have tried every plug from AC, Bosh (spellin) champion, split fires, etc,, and have ran them with hot coils, MSD, Jacobs, etc, and I have found nothing better than the #4130 champion. All the others, burn up, or foul out. Now I do like the AC C-88.. But it still fouls out after half a season,, Just my opinion,, Chad

I have had great luck with them, I still run points in all my pullers, and in the process of converting to the petronix ignitor,, should make one heck of a lightning bolt!! I have ran the same set in my 240ci H, for a few years now,, like I said, no reason to change them, Always starts fast, and they don't seem to foul out. Chad

ChadS,

What size of a gap are you running with your plugs? Thanks.

The reason that most Champion plugs are junk is the resistor coil in the plug.If you break the porcilon insulator you will find a very fine copper wire that was wrapped around the conductor and that was the problam, this thing heats up and causes resistance. The plug you are talking about does not have this stupid resistor so it does not heat up and breakdown, causing misfires. The other plug manufacters don't use this type of resistor in there plugs.By the way the only reason for it was to reduce ignition noise in car radios, and how many guys have radios on there pulling tractors?
