Chad; would performance increase if the plugs were indexed. Are indexing washers available for a plug of this size. Oh thanks for the past response!..... H

Ohio H;

They say indexing does help, but you will never see the increase. It is so small that it realy does not make a difference.

I am not for sure what this term is. If you mean moving the electrode up, or down, it really is not nessisary with a plug like this. As far as the seal gasket is concerned, a seal ring off of any 18mm spark plug will work with out having to cut the tapered edge off. Chad

Not to be a smarta$$, but indexing your plugs is using different shims to get the electrodes all pointing in the same direction with respect to the combustion chamber. Sometimes it has to be done to clear a part of the piston dome. There is a small hp gain to be had by doing it but you will only see it on a dyno. It is common in the upper levels of racing where fractions of a hp can mean winning or losing. Most of us would never see or feel the difference.

CHad;

Why only .032 plug gap? Have you tried a bigger gap? I went all the way up to .110 gap on my "A" last year. It did not work once installed in the tractor, but boy it looked good outside. I ended up runnig some where around .055.

With the older dist.s they cannot take big gaps. I found on my 'M' with pro street jacobs that anything over .035 would arc in the cap and cause engine to miss. I am also running IH dist. If you converted to gm's hei dist. (or your favorite brand), then you could run a bigger gap. Just my 3 cents worth.

More gap on high compression blows out the spark like a birthday candle, You can run more gap if your ingnition can handle throwing a spark strong enough to keep it arching properly. They say,, using MSD,, you can open up the gap, up to .55-.065 in that area, tried that, kept burning up condensers, it has to do with the resistance in the wires, coil output, etc.

Why do you have a condenser installed with an msd?

Are you saying I can eliminate the condenser using an MSD? Never tried it. Chad

I have removed 3 using the msc 6al and never had a problem. Multiple Spark Discharge tells me the msd box has some sort of electronic capacitance discharge unit that does what the standard cap does. They work with dist (electronic ignition) that use a stator and reluctor and you know they don't have a cap. Its just a maganet that passes a hermetically sealed contact.

Try it.

Thanks Tim. I appreciate that information. I made the mistake of running the condenser, so it must have possibly cut the amount of spark to the plugs? Chad

CHad;

You said you ran points in your Hs. You are now going to electronic ignition. Let me know how you like the electronic when you get it in. I am still running points and rite now am happy with them.

Terry put one on the Massey 101,, I looked it over, and watched the spark,, IT IS WORTH IT!! there is a huge difference in the spark kernal! I got lit up by it, Could not move my hand for 20 minutes!! LOL,, I think it would help a JD tremndously,, bigger spark, more explosion!! and more burned fuel. Economy would pick up, thus, hp would increase.

DCTom;

Anything as ugly as that DC has got to taste bad. I would not want my little "A" to get an upset tummy So I have done some research and have found that if I put one bottle of Maalox to 5 gallons of gas it will keep my "A" running like a champ after it sucks that DC up and spits it out next year!
