Is anyone familiar with the Banner brothers who used to run with Allisons and went on to multi-engine rigs. They used to pull regularily here in Southern Ontario in NTPA pulls. Just wondering what they've been up to since the late 70's.

Thanks for the info fellows. Sorry about the mix-uo over the names, after I had sent it, got to wondering if it wasn't Banter.I'll have to put that down to senility I guess. Do remember the multiple engine rigs though. At one pull here at Nelles Corners (Cayuga), one of their engines just died mid pull and Dave put it down to having forgot to fill that engines fuel tank - got quite the laugh from the crowd. As you say, I remember them as being real nice guys, as were all you American pullers who came to Cayuga. It was just a great time in tractor pulling!!! By the way , I'm only aware of one Canadian puller that did well in the U.S.. Have you ever heard of Gord Oughtred from Brantford Ontario who ran the Canadian Hauler (D21 Allis). He and the whole crew always dressed in Orange. He cleaned up here in Canada and I believe also went to the big Louisville pull.

Jim, I'm sitting here looking at a picture in the Oct 1973 Puller mag of Gordon Oughtreds 220 AC called the Canadian Hauler. He pulled the 9-12000 classes with it and I believe he was the 1973 NTPA point champ at 9000 lbs.

He later built a D-21 AC to pull the 7-9000 class with.He never pulled in my part of the country so I never got to see him pull.

1206SWMO - Thanks for the info on Gord Oughtred's record in the States. Later Gord bought the oldest AC dealership in Ontario (Caledonia Tractor) and ran it for a few years before personal problems led to his losing it. Have lost track of him now, but he sure did a lot for pulling here.

Jim, I believe you are talking about the Banter Brothers(Dave & Ralph)from LaFontaine,Indiana.I dont think they ever pulled V-12 Allisons.

I'm sitting here looking at a Sept 1973 Puller mag and on the front cover is a picture of their carbureted twin 440 Dodge powered puller driven by Tom Colchin. In 1973 they also had an E-4 Coop with a blown 427 Chev that Tom Colchin drove. In 1981 I saw them pull at Springfield,MO running 3 stair stepped blown Chev's.

Over the years they kept adding engines and at one time in the early 90's they had one tractor with 7 blown Chevs and another with 6 blown Chevs. We saw them pull these at Macon,MO in 1991.Imagine 13 engines to keep together.Over the years they won numerous NTPA championships.

They retired 6-7 years ago and the sport sure hasnt been the same since then. They were just real nice guys and were not braggarts.I remember Dave being interviwed on TV about a pull he would be pulling in that eve.The announcer asked him how he thought he'd do and he said the track is 30 ft wide and 300 ft long and someone is going top win tonite.

I want to say that it was a Robin Wood sled. I was watching my tractor and trying to keep dirt out of my beer!

Dave Banner started on a mini-rod (naturally aspirated). There were numberous allisons though, in the early days, Mike Holden (?spelling) and an allison team with two. Of course, ej potter, with ugly and double ugly was one of the first allison pullers. I think also that Garner Stones triple now pulls in Europe, and that his twin is still around somewhere.
