Do any of you use a 14.9x38 tire on a 16 inch wide rim and if so how does it pull and look? From what I have been told one the clubs I pull with have allowed up to a 16 inch wide wheel below 6500lbs,it used to be 14 inch

Jack, I run 14.9x38 on a 16 inch rim and have good luck with them. It gives them a more rounded look
and widens them out a little. Scott

Were they hard to get to blow out on the beads?I get a little nervous on these older dry, weather checked tires, over inflated tryin to get them to seat.Later Scott

Jack, My opinion on your question for what it is worth is: The 14.9 will work and pull just as good with either rim width on most tracks if you have your tire pressure right for the track conditions. I would say the 14.9 on the 14" rim will get you down the track further on a real hard track verses the 16" inch as the center of the tire on the 16" rim will be more prone to push up with the same amount of air pressure. I am sure someone will argue this but that's what I have learned. The most important thing when playing with rim width is to match that and track conditions with the right amount of air pressure. I would not be afraid to stay with the 14" rim. Good Luck, Dave W.

Hey Dave, you still got them Bad B's?I was thinking if I ever built the engine up to go the open classes than I would already have the rims for 18'4x38 tires but for now I was going to try my 14'9's below 6500lbs.Say on a hard track I aired them up to 14psi or better would that be enough air pressure to hold the center of the tread down and on loose tracks let them down a few pounds?COME ON SPRING,I am ready to go pullin outside.

Still got the "B's" We had them down to Princeton at Thanksgiving time and did fairly well. Have not made any other plans for the rest of the Winter. Thinking on going down maybe to Fruitland Mo. if time allows. Also thought about going to Kearny Neb. if they have one but the boy does not want to miss Sigourney either. Probably just go to Sigourney and see how we fair there. The air pressure you quoted sounds about right, every tire will vary some depending on ply and stiffness of the tire. Watch your tire tracks at he end and see if the dirt is pushing up in the center or is staying round or nice and flat. That will give you more of an idea what to do with tire pressure. It just takes time and when you change a tires or rim width you kind of start all over again. The 14.9 is a good tire for that weight class if you have any kind of a decent track. Go get em Jack, Dave
