I saw an old tractor at the Grand National pulls in Tomah Wisconsin back in the mid 70's called solid junk. It looked terible but took its class.
I was wondering if anyone remembers what kind of tractor it was and if its still around.

This tractor was built & driven by Ron Perry from Bringhurst IN. It was later driven by Dave Stangle from Kewanna IN when it won all of it's fame. I have known Dave since I was a little boy helping on his farm and traveling to tractor pulls long before "Solid Junk" hit the scene. You can probably recruit photos from "The Puller" magazine. If you can't find any, I'm sure I could talk to Dave and have him send some.

Does nayone have any pictures of this legendary machine? I would love to see it. I am to young to have seen it pull, but I would love to build a model of it. Thanks

Joe

I saw that thing pull several times at the Indiana State Fair and elsewhere back in the 70's or early 80's. It quite often had one front wheel removed (row-crop front) in order to make the weight class. At least I assumed that was the reason....with one wheel off, it kinda completed the image that the rest of the tractor presented! It was a mean puller, however, and nearly always placed in the top two or three.

"Solid Junk" was a G-1000 MM.I saw it pull several times in the 70's.It was a tough tractor in its day.Perry and Stangle sold it years ago to a Robert Holmes in Ohio.I've heard that he still owns it and that it has sat for years in his barn all apart.

I believe that it was owned by a guy named Dave Stangle. It was some type of Minnie Mo that was turbocharged on propane. I believe that it was later converted to alchohol. Tough running tractor!

I talked to Dave Stangle in Connersville, In this summer. He co-owned the Solid Junk tractor with Ron Perry. I believe it was a Moline G900. Dave said they sold it to someone in Ohio that repainted it and ran it for a couple of years. As far as he knew this fellow still had it.

I posted a question about "Solid Junk" several weeks ago on the Minneapolis-Moline Home Page. The replies I got back all said Solid Junk had a HD800 engine and it was a G1000.
