Saw a car mag the other day with EJ Potter, the Michigan Madman, and his Chevy powered motorcycle. Then read the post below about the nasty Moline puller.

Does anyone remenber EJ's UGLY tractor?

Cockshutt rear, Tank Retriever trans, and a big ole' Allison V-12 on th front. 10" I beam fram rails, Cessena nose gear up front. Only paint was "ugly tractor" painted on the valve cover.

He bought a rail car of engines at surplus in Chicago, and would just drop in another when one blew. It was said that the first mod was removing the govener, then overdriving the supercharger.

I saw him pull at Ingahm County, MI once. The other Mods were just getting to th full pull mark. He pulled the sled out of the track and probably would have gone around the corner of the race track if he hadn't already shown them what for. He pretty much was untouchable until the turbines showed up, and then the 4+ blown alcahol Hemi's and Rat motors with slipper clutches.

Then he made Double Ugly with 2 v-12's, someone said that this was an experimental W-24 block rather than 2 v-12's.

Then he made an absolutely beautiful V-12 Injected on alcahol for a lady puller. Nothing like 24 Hillborns beneath a big air box pressurized by the factory supercharger, double speed driven of course!

How can I contact the Michigan Madman ? I would like to purchase one of the Allison W-24 engines from him. If anyone can help me contact him or knows of a W-24 for sale I'd appreciate the info. Gary

I bought the video tape and the an autobiography from him about a year ago. He answered the phone and was as sharp as a tack. I recommend both the book and the video. He sure did build ugly tractors but they would run!

Yes, I remember EJ pulling at our county fair in Sandusky, it was one of the first allison powered tractors we ever saw in this area. I bought a video tape a couple of years ago that he put out about the story of his life. It has a lot of pictures of his pulling tractors plus his drag racing and motorcycle racing. The tape is The Michigan Madman, there a number to call to order 1-877 A MAD MAN, I don't know if this number still works like I said it's been two years I've had it now.

Sure do, I towed him on and off the tracks a few times. His truck and trailer was just as ugly. But paint couldn,t have made it run any better. Was the article recent or an old one?

Recent (past 6 months). It was all about his newest incarnation of the Widowmaker motorcycle. I'll try to scrounge up the mag and date.
