I have a 460 diesel that i am doing the same thing to. I had the head ported and polished the had new valves seats and guids in but the valves wer 30 thousands over sized and it made a big diffrence plus i ported my manifolds. Then had the injectors re done then had a new head put in the pump but not sure what it was. good luck with your prodject. hope any of this info helps.

We built our 660 diesel a few years ago, we had the lift increased on the cam, put in the bigger late 282 706 valves, had the head flowed ported and polished. I ported the manifolds myself. The injectors had the pressures reset, and we are running a double roller pump. We have plenty of smoke, and adjusted the fual on the dyno so that we were not drowning the engine with fuel. It will pull 4th gear high TA at 8500, on clay around here with no problems. Good luck, its a learning curve.
