I know just about everyone runs 38 inch tires for pulling, but are there any circumstances where a 34 inch tire could work better?

Try standinging an 18.4 38 against a 20.8 34. Overall height is very simmilar and width on 20 34 is better. Plus can pick up used 20% 20 34's for a bit of nothing. Works for me.

how many places are classic/antiques allowed to run 20.8x34's?? Not many! Good answer though!! Hey, I bet an 18.4x 42 also is taller!!!!

I did not know this site was special to antique pullers! I am actually looking at a Farm Stock, open class (3000 rpm limit in 3rd gear).

Actually, I have a pair of 18.4 X 34's Firestone Field and Road 8 plys and was curious, for a farm class, if it is worth pursuing 38 inch tires in place of 34's in my possession. But thanks for letting me know, DUH!

Getting out of a spinout hole left by previous pullers is difficuilt enough. Worse yet when your tire is smaller than the hole in width or length. Tall tires increase ground speed in 1st gear only class's too.

It would work better if you don't have the muscle to rotate the 38. Overall, I like the 38's the best. I am sure 9 out of 10 would agree with me. The 38's also help you gain ground speed. That is important, especially in open speed classes.
