I just aquired a 70 gas that is .125 overbore. The rest of the motor is original. I also have a G that is bored .045 with aluminum pistons. The question is, which should be stronger. I'm not interested in discussing brands of tractors, I just looking for opinions.

Todd, all being equal; tires, drawbar heights, modifications... the 70G should outpull the G. On that rare occassion that we have pulled against a true stock G (our 70 is bone stock with the exception of a .045 overbore which we HAD to do) we have had good luck. We run 14.9x38 Titans loaded with windshield washer fluid and no weights. When we have lightened her up to get in the 6500# class, we have always spun out very soon. We have yet to power out at all in 1st gear!

Hey Todd,I took my G and 70 to a pull back in the summer and the 70 out pulled my G about a foot. The G ran out of steam with 16.9's and the 70 spun out the 15.5's.This was a power track.I am running Clevite high compression aluminum pistons in the 70 and stock cast.90 over in the G with a gas manifold and on a loose track the G has beaten the 70.We just purchased a dyno last week and I will definatly know which one has the most hp come the weekend.

The 70 gas is rated at 44.2 drawbar 50.4 pto and the G is rated at 34.1 drawbar 38.5 pto. The 70 gas has a smaller displacement than the G. A factory 70 is much heavier than the G
The 70 has the duplex carb
What kind of tires does each tractor have?

I personally have had good luck against the 70 models with my G but either one will do the job. I was looking at the NATPA 2001 final standings and I noticed a lot more G's in the different classes than 70's.

Good luck either way.

Both have 14.9 x 38 rears. Both run good and tight, and will be pulled in our 6500 lb. low gear farm stock classes. I realize that the horsepower on the G will be more than 34.1 due to the pistons. I was just trying to get a feel of what to expect. Yes, the 70 has less cubes, but has a better fuel-intake system but I have no idea how these tractors will perform in non-modified form. I don't have access or time to fool with a dyno right now.

Unless it got problems, the 70 will prevail.

On the eighth day, God made the dyno.

Hey Dyno, you might have a point. Instead of taking on a sled, we just write a short essay for a judge to read and decide who is the smartest puller. That will be turned in with a dyno reading from your tractor and a computer will spit out a winner for the pull. No weights to buy and lug around, no smoky tire cutting fumes, no twisted drive line parts,no ventalated crankcases,... Talk about boring!!
