Back pressure is a term that is mis-understood.
You don't want back pressure period. However that would lead some to believe taking off the pipe and manifold would help the situation. Not.

Smaller pipes and exhaust port can improve performance. Does this create back pressure? Not necessarily. It does keep the velocity of the exhaust gases up and promotes some other things to happen.

You do not want back pressure of any kind on a tractor motor, the idea is to let it breeth, thats why they make headers for motors to get ride of the exhaust as fast and as quick as possable, when your engine is running at rpm, the air comming into the motor and exhausting out of the motor, makes what is called FLOW,,Flow rate is important to any motor it makes or breaks the power output of the motor,ANY back pressure will stifle the flow rate and cause low Volummetric Efficiency (V.E.),,,hope this will help ya,,,
