how do you get the cover off? I have the brake and the belt pully removed. the cover seams to be stuck on the bearing.

did you take the small two bolt cover off and remove the cotter pin and nut?

There is an indexing pin on the lower portion of the cover that can be a real bugger. Make sure that isn't causing some of your problem.

The cover seems to be moving fine around the pins. It seems to be stuck around the bearing area. Do I need to remove the bearing first and if so how. The center of the bearing is smaller than the threads on the shaft.

If I remember right, sometimes it worked to put a slight outward pressure on the cover with a small bar between the cover and the transmission case, or even through the clutch fork cover on the crankshaft drive gear and then rap on the end of the reduction gear shaft with a rubber mallet, dead-blow hammer or a hardwood block & hammer. Don't get too agressive with this, or you'll have bigger problems. Hope this helps.
