Hello fellas. I'm getting my stock G engine ready to install in my old 47' U. Right now I have a nice U carburetor. It is my understanding that a G carb has a bigger throat AND venturi. On this stock 403 engine, what size venturi should I put in if I use the smaller throat U carburetor? Can it still perform normally with the smaller U carb and larger G or M670 Super venturi? Your thoughts fellas...

I have a similar set-up. Matt @ Motec rewoked my carb, made an obvious difference from the seat. Didn't dyno it, so I can't give you hp #s.

Motec's phone # is 765-963-6628. Good guy.

I think your top end would suffer but bottom end would be better with more turbulance and velocity. I have a 336 motor that I hope to dyno with the stock carb and a U,1.25 carb to test that theory.

We ran a stock 340 (4.25x6) in our UB last year. It had lots of low end with a U carb, but it pulled down off the top real easy. 3rd gear in 5500 class was TOUGH. Once in a while it would lug down low and keep the tires movin at the end. 2nd gear was safe. This year the 340 is 413 cubes. My 47 U motor is a stock 403 though.
