How much HP can you get out of the John Deere 466TA(4955) engine without elaborate modification? What has to be done to do it? Thanks

About your "elaborate modification" comment. It wouldn't involve much change to the engine itself, but I think an air-to-air aftercooler would really wake one up. The stock air-to-water unit works well in regular tractors, but cooling the intake air with 80 degree ambient air would sure make for a much better charge than cooling it with 200 degree engine coolant. It would take some work, but I think one could be installed in front of the radiator pretty easy, if you eliminated the stock hyd cooler/condensor.

I agree with Redman. I've seen a 4960 with that same engine (more or less) make 260 hp at 2200 rpm (factory rated speed) at the PTO. Probably translates to 310 or so at the flywheel, and it was turned up dramatically or even smoking, so it wasn't overfueled. I would think that 350 would be pretty easy, and 400 doable with the stock pump and so forth cranked to the max, but that's just a guess.

what do you consider "elaborate modification"?with all the factory items left alone it should wind upwards of 300 hp with no trouble a better guess would be in the 325-350 hp range.
