I just started the restoration of a 1959 730 Diesel. When completed I would like to take it to some of the local pulls here in southwestern PA. I would only be pulling stock classes and am wondering what size tire would be the best to use. I am thinking about 14.9-38 Firestone because of the larger plate area than a 15.5. 16.9's would be nice but I think they'd be too tall for the fenders. Radials aren't out of the question either. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I run 16.9's on my 720 only because I am too sorry to round up a set of wheels and mount some 18.4's. If you plan to pull bigger is better. The 16.9's are a good compromise and look good on the tractor. Especially if it is a wide front with 9.5 x 15 low profiles on the front. Everyone has their own opinion but a 730 with 15.5's looks ODD. Way too small! The 18.4's will clear the fenders, besides as someone else mentioned, they are adjustable.

I pull a 730 diesel too. It did real good with the stock 15.5's on it (and I've never seen one with a smaller size) but we needed more traction on some tracks and ended up putting on a pair of 18.4's that I got for free. But, my tractor had an optional transmission and didnt have the creeper gear, so I had to install it since the bigger tires are a little faster.

If you have the flat top fenders they adjust for different sizes. I have them on now even with the 18.4's on. I think my fenders are off a 4020, but I believe they are the same except for an extra hand-hold.

I pull in Mercersburg PA. and McConnelsburg (sp?) every now and then. Is this around you?

Im from Somerset county. There are monthly pulls at New Centerville (Farmers and Threshermans Jubilee grounds) and also in Listie. I also pull at the Somerset county Fair in Meyersdale. I live in Berlin and am still waiting to hear if we're getting a pulling track put in somewhere to replace the one the school district paved over. I've heard a little bit about a pull in Bull Skin??? I think its in Westmoreland county but haven't been there but I'd like to check it out.

Most antique pulls will not let you pull radials.
