How much should i shave off a Super H head for more compression? What other things i could do to get more power without spending alot of money? I am new to this tractor pulling. Thanks in advance.

A buddy took a head down .250 which lasted as long as hooking it to the dyno and poof, he was done. You can pull the sleeves out and put in M IH pistons. I'm sure their are other more expensive ways but this will make a strong puller in the pure-stock class. Goodluck

The temptation is always there for more power but as "old puller" said here " you need traction 1st". I'll agree as I took 3rd with an overpowered/weenie wheeled JD 435. 1st place went to a "B" lugging hard in low gear wearing superb 12.4x38 Firestones. Find a set of the tallest/widest tires legal in your class. Old hard tires with lots of plies & short 23 degree tread. Sharpen them if legal or spin in reverse on concrete. Now go out on the track & find the correct front/rear weight balance, drawbar length & tire pressure.

i wouldn't take to much off. have it plained for flatness,go with port matching, big valves and a carb. that will get you in the game.my dad had his head shaved a little to much, now it just over heats.
