I currently have a 1938 G, mint condition. No cracks... no leaks, great compression. 51 Carb... bored .045. Alu. Pistons.

My question for you is the following... WHAT CAN I DO!

I really dont want to stroke it. I would however put a different crank in it if I did not have to cut anything. Also, far can I bore this G. I will buy a power block if I have to. Cam.. who can I go to? Carb... who can do this. Head... whatever, I want to get as much as possible. I also want to concentrate on getting more air to it... give me any info you can.

(I also have two sets of tires. 18.4x34's.. wide rim, for wet tracks. Just picked up a good looking set of 16.9x38. What have people done with widen rims for these... let me know thoes who run 16.9X38.)

Thankyou

I have a '52 G that is bored .090 stock stroke and cam, cyclone head and a big carb. I'm running 16.9 Deep Treads. The wheels have been widened out to 16". It's alright in 6500lb class but runs a little sort on power in anything heavier.

With the flat head, styled block and aluminum pistions you will have a dynamic compression reading in the 220-255 psi range (depending on which cam profile you have). This certainly is run by a lot of folks but I lowered mine below 200psi to gain some longevity. However, I would suggest having the flat head "pinned" to provide more support (less blown head gaskets). I would also suggest purchasing the composite wired head gasket from lubbuck gasket versus a copper or OEM head gasket. Drop me a line if you have any questions.

Does your G have a styled block in it? If not you need one this will bring your compression up. That block # f550r bore out .125 install aluminum high comp. pistons ,port and polish the FLATHEAD that should be on your G . You will be impressed of your old G it will pull good!

a good G with .045 pistons in it should run 55-60 hp w/o any other things done to it. I would pull it the way it is because them U/S G's that early are getting harder to find. I would go with an U/S A if your gonna pull alot with it and get serious for a 2 banger. but if you really want to pull this tractor, I would bore it to 6.375 if you want to use the stock block, or go with a 7-1 PB and bor that to 6.75. You can port and polish the head and get a 3 angle valve job done. y9ou should have 70hp if all is done right.
