Would a 1958 D17 make a competitive puller? What would be it's toughest competition be, generally speaking, assuming stock for stock?

I have never noticed a D17 pulling. Why would that be? Too new to be allowed or non-competitive? There are plenty of WC's

Can someone enlighten me?

I would think the D17 is too heavy for the power it has. You can build a WC engine to have the same power (or more) than a D17 with much less weight. If you want to run the heavier classes, use the souped up WC with more weights.

I pull a '58 D-17 in the classic division 3 and 4.I can get it in 4500 lb. to 8500 lb. classes.Normally I pull 4500, 5500, and 6500 lb.The tractor is competitive with placings in local pulls, and a third place pull at the Iowa State Fair in 2000-6500 open. The tractor has a hi and low in each gear-double that of a WD.Whatever you decide to do,you will have alot of fun!Hope this helps,Mark.

Maybe a desiel D-17 with a turbocharger (same as D-19 engine) would be fun in open classes. I love the black smoke :^)
