I am building a Div.2 puller out of an H and I was wondering if I have to use the U shaped part of the drawbar or if I can just use the drawbar itself. I wanted to make an adjustable hitch and it would be much easier w/out the loop to keep it at an 18" minimum. Thanks for reply.

Well, what I did to keep the u-bar there to look as stock as possible, was moved the u-bar further forward. I used some 1/2" angle iron to bolt the u-bar back to its original mounting plates coming down from the rear axle. I had to make new adjusters from the mounting plates on the axle to the u-bar. I think overall those braces are stronger than the originals.

The easiest way to more the solid hitch forward is to reverse the axle mounts and move them to the front. If you have disk brakes, you have to remove a small chunk on the top for clearance, but otherwise they will go right on. You can also flip the hitch over so the 90 deg bends are pushing down instead of pulling. You'll be suprised what just this can do for you.

Do you pull fom the u bar? If not what did you do to shorten the straight draw bar?

Sorry, I left that out. I actually got material and made another drawbar with and opening on the end for a hook. Out of everything I did do I saved all the parts so the tractor can go back stock if I want to change her back.

take your U bar and hook it to the front of the axelthat will make it arond 20" from the center of the axel. put adjusters to adjust up and down
instead of the rods . a plate w/a 3" hole bolted to theU bar for hook point
