Ford tractors to pull?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what pre-1957 Ford tractor would be the best to fix up to pull? Any weight class. I want one that I can put a larger motor in and pull and compete with everyone else with larger stuff. For example, I currently have a VAC Case that pulls the 2500 and 3500 lbs class. It came with a 126cui motor and can only go to about 160cui even after pouring alot of money into it. This isn't even close to the motors that the AC WC's, Farmall H's and Oliver 60's have got with alot less money. I want a model and class that I can compete in with a Ford. Any suggestions?

Raymond,
You have NO chance with any type Ford or a VAC Case against S. J. or myself with our fleet of MM and AC pullers. You might as well just join the Agco team. Good luck, The Agco Avenger

Mr. C.S., I assume,
Although it would seem that you feel threatened by a little competition different from what you are accustomed to seeing, I know that I won't be spending the kind of dough necessary to compete in your league. I'm just out looking for the little, cheaper tricks of the trade from people who like to be different from the crowd.

I'll leave the MM's, AC's and JD's to you, S.J. and everyone else with the same tractors up there in the C class. Everyone already knows that those tractors pull well because that is what everybody pulls. If I had the choice between team Agco or pull an AC or JD, I'd go with team Agco. Thanks for the luck wishing, team Agco.

Raymond,
This is your last chance to join Team Agco...After this, we will take no mercy upon you. You will also have to pull against my TO-20, "that takes the money" Ferguson. You have NEVER heard anything like a screaming Z-120 Contenintal!!! This is your LAST chance!
The Avenger

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stay with the Fiat Company. However, Ferguson wasn't the only company to use Continental engines were they..... ..And larger cubes than the Z-120 and Z-129....Seemed that it weighed 3400lbs.....
Team Fiat.

Excuse me!! I have been called worse and will take that as a compliment. Just trying to help the man out. You seem to know so much why don't you give some good input instead of acting like a 5th grader!!

There are quite a few running with 195 power units in them. I have heard of one 261 cubes pulling, but have no idea what was done to get it there. You can take about any of the 50s fords that had the 134 or 172 engine in them and put in a 195. I don't really have any experience with the fords other then stock form and the farmers that use them in this area, but I can say there are some winning fords out there. Also I have a VAC with 206 cubes and could go bigger. If there's a will theres a way.

What Ford came with a 195 cu id motor in it?

Also, how on earth are you getting a VAC case with that many cubes? I know that you can take the early 148 cu id motor and shoehorn in some 159 parts and get a little bigger, but not over 200?? Help me out here. Thanks

The 195 was a power unit. I am not sure what all it was used on. Generators, irrigation pumps, and the such would be the best guess. I checked and 240 cubes is possible on a VA seies. I plan on pulling mine in 2 weeks and will let you know how it goes. If you want to know how it is done e-mail me.

Haven't quite finished it yet. Worked on it all day. Plan on 2500, 2700, and 3000 pound super class. No speed limit and cut tires. Hope I don't get disapointed and it not get in 2500#.

We just got done with a VAC and it weighs 2925 empty. OTTPA doesn't have a 2500 class do they? I thought their lowest super class was 3700?

OTTPA has a 3500 5 mph class, but I can't hang over 1000 pounds on. I will be pulling Angier indoor at 2700 and 3000 and DATPA at 2500, 2700 and 3000 super.

I can get my 1949 and my brothers 1947 vac's down to 2500lbs. Take off the belt pully assembly with the hydraulic pump and the cross piece that you hook the cultivators to. Also we don't have the eagle hitch. Mine doesn't even have a pto because it didn't come with it. Now go to the bathroom before you go and skip breakfast and hope the scales are weighing light! Although you're not supposed to, draining a little oil out of the torque tube and rear might help a bit. Because I went with the larger 12.5x28s, I had to get some Oliver hubs with the 9 bolt hole pattern and some JD (gasp) steel rims to loose some weight. Endless possibilities with wheel size at that point. The Oliver hubs requied a little machine work on the keyways. I have been told that massey harris hubs will match right up.

Here is mine. I'm gonna run 11.2x 36 on 12" wide rims. I have lowered the floors, changed to avery V pedals, cut off a lot of extra cast, built a light front with rack and pinion steering, lots of aluminum, hood and grille mounted together with all the braceing inside removed for weight, 12" rims on the front, lowered seat lowered shifter, lowered steering, and a bunch of other stuff. I am running a 188 diesel starter because the VA series starter would not start the cubes + compression I am running. I am also running a suzuki electronic distributor. Made a aluminum water pump pulley and using a geo metro radiator with electric fan. I hope it gets in 2500, but if not no big deal.

I am going to try and take it to Mike Marley's farm. I thought I might pull 2700 stock out of comp and 3500 5 mph at around 3000 pounds just to see how it does. I hope to have it done in time. I will be at the pull either way to do a article for the magazine with some pictures.

Awesome! You might want to decal it as a VAO though, it sure looks alot more like a VAO than a VAC with the lowered steering wheel, seat and wide front end. I'll be getting in contact soon. Thanks for all your help!

The rear is a early VA, the transmission is a VAC, the torque tube is a VAH, and the front casting is a early VA, and there's a few VAI and VAS parts on it too. I am running a VAI tag on it. Just built from a pile of junk anyway.
