I have a 1950 farmall h and I would like to pull it but I also use it around the house. I already have some parts for it, a 350 head casting # 351479r1 , a 350 manifold and a 300 carb. It already has a delco distributer, It needs the electronic kit though.
I would like to know if that head is good for pulling and what the biggest valves that I can put in it, How much I can port it out(intake port size)
If you know of anything else I can do or things to improve on I would appreciate it. Thanks
If you respond please e-mail me at my e-mail address. If possible I would like your e-mail address. thanks

Yes. it is a good cyl head. it is the late version of the 8043DD casting. Same chamber design. These heads were designed for firecrater pistons. Pay attention to the engine controls to look for performance, carb jetting, governor spring, and different mechanical advance springs out of a chevrolet recurve kits. Don't go huge on port work, just gasket match, and polish the ports to smooth them out. only time you will see the full bennifit from port work is when you have high compression, over 200psi. Big valves will not help in this situation, you are not running high rpm, and do not have enough compression to justify a change like that. it will lose too much vacuum on the intake side of the head. so keep the stock valves for now. use the 350 cam if you can, the 50 model has a good cam cut, due to being a late model tractor. We still run a stock cam in one of our stroker H engines, and it does just fine. it is a 1950 model tractor as well. My email is hpuller2001@yahoo.com email me if you like. the carb, and governor will make a huge change in the engine for lug power, and throttle response. the mechanical advance springs will help with throttle reponse speed as well. I will detail the description on how to hop it up, just email me. works for H-450!! any is welcome. Chad
