I have an 1947 VAC and have pulled in a few plow pulls. I got my butt kicked by another VAC! What can be done to increase the HP on these low powered machines?

Thanks for any tips!

Take the guts out of a 148a motor and put in the Vac block. Shave .050 off the head. A 300 LP head may fit. Modify the rear of a 188 or 207 gas and bolt it in.

All good ideas. Don L. has a big-bore piston/sleeve kit that works well. Depending on governor type you can either mill the flyweights or remove some flyballs to improve governor response. There was an optional lower final drive ratio available on the drum brake rear ends. Take another .050" off the head. Port match the head to the gasket. Tune it on a dyno.

Thanks for the help! Do you have an number or e mail address for Don L. I am not aware of who he is.

Will milling the flyweights give more RPM, I assume.

Thank you for the help!

Pull a 207 turbo diesel engine out of the nearest 580ck backhoe. Do a little pump work and install a bigger turbo, then injet a little LP. Cut the tires with about 5/8" cleat and strap it in 3rd gear. I will guarantee you can take the other VAC then!! HeeHee just kidding..
