Well, with all the paint scraping and dirt scraping, I now have a CASE of JD paint, a new manifond that is Match-ported to the head, 5-angle cut on the valves...the head comes home tomorrow... I wonder if the tractors that were tested at Neb. were run-of-the-mill assembly line, or were checked over closely...??? Mine had an awful miss-match between the intake and the head...will surely make more power now than it could ever have before.. NOW, to get to the port work...!!! I don't expect to pull this, but I DO expect it to at LEAST pull with my WD-45...!!!

If all your asking is for it to run with a WD-45, it should do that and more if they are both stock bore and stroke.

What did ya do, use a "60" head..???

Did you see a bad miss-match between the head and manifold ports..?? Mine were at least 20% off-center...and the intake port ends were really restricted compared to the head ports... I can't get over the pistons coming up to flush with the deck, on this 630..!!!! All others have been earlier models, with lot of room over the piston...!! What sealer do you like to use on the water-passage areas of the head gasket..?? I have used "Copper-Coat" in the past... I put the extra angles on the valves, to help create a "Venturi effect", thru the open valve.. Back-cutting them also helps flow at low-lift.. Don't need that metal that is not contacting the seat, that is Below the seat...!!! I will hand work the intakes today, contouring the margin, rounding them...already have a small radius ground near the margin...!!! What seat width do you think would be best for field-work..?? I am leaning toward 1/8".. 44 1/2 on the intakes, 45 on the exhausts..

Not sure, Maybe it will only make an Honest 44 HP...but I want all of it...!! Tired of 2-Cylinders that won't put out when I need it...!! If this won't out work my WD-45, I'll sell it and keep Orange..!! I have a friend who is ready to sell his 730 D, cause all it is big enough for is to mow, and move empty wagons...!!! I'm surprised, he never shifts gears...starts in the gear he is going to run in...that won't work on the road with a 500 Bu wagon...!! We always shifted to get a good load moving...

Ron you could also use the 630LP pistons.. they are a little taller and not dished like the gas pistons.. (LP manifold too.)
You should be happy with the 630.. I sure like all the features of the 30 series.. (Dad's almost finished with his 630.) but I like the 730D's the best.. good fuel economy.. and good power.. Surprised your friend is not happy with the power from his 730D.. (No sycronized gears does make shifting on the go a little more of a task.. especially on the later 2 cylinders.) Grandfather always pulled two wagons behind the 630 or the 70.. (totaled about 450bu) can't say that he pulled them in road gear like that... (only thing left of those wagons are the chassis, but the tractors are still around) Now that I'm done rambling... Good Luck with the 630..
