I found a nice used pair of firestone super all traction tires. How do these work for pulling? I've had good luck with field and roads but these are nice tires and a good deal. Thanks.

I had a set of 60 plus percent 16.9x38's on a 53 G John Deere mounted on 15 inch wheels that were some grabbing dudes. You won't find much better on a damp night track.Mine had 12 more lugs than the B.F Goodriches I took off before on each tire. They don't like muddy tracks or real sandy loose tracks but there is not too many tracks around here that fit that description anyway. What I am trying to say in a nutshell is either they work exellent or not worth a crap, there is no happy medium but most tracks were ideal and had good luck. This is my personal experience, hope this helps,Jack.

I have a buddy that pulls a 560 gas, he had 60% 16.9x38's traction field and roads, then he spent the $1000 and got new 16.9x38 super all traction field and roads and it made a world of difference for him. It turns stock horse but lugs real well because of his cam.

I read an article a few weeks ago, Firestone, says they will stop making the traditional, 23 degree all traction, and field and road series, and switch to the super all traction tread design. Anyone else hear, or read that????? ? ChadS

Just bought a new pair of 23 degree 15.5 x38's in the new style. Was a little disapointed at the tread width - about an inch less than the F&R we have, but the cleats are closer together so maybe get more cleat to the ground that way. The bars are a little narrower than we expected too - expected more of what we have on the 18.4's we farm with. Great farm tire - we'll see how they pan out on the track. Tire dealer said the old tread will phase out as the new ones come on - they're quiting the production of the old ones.

We had bought 2 sets of 15.5x38 field and road firestones for the 730 JD. Glad we did, I think the new tires will be good, the new style tire, stood up against the old design, same size rim width, the new tire was 1.5 inches taller on the side wall, than the old style tire, so some change is made. As for the long bar short bar tires,, well, can live with em, can live with out em, I have a set on my 50 H, Armstrong 15.5x38. Now these tires I like, about 3/4 tread, yet a much taller tire for some reason. gives it a bit more gear. just my opinions,, Chad

I've made a habit of studying people's tires. The long bar/short bar is questionable, but the type you mention are shorter equal sized bars. These do quite well. There are more bars per tire and they bite. I pull Firestone Deep Treads (more bars per tire), Traction Torque Goodyear (long biting edge), Armstrong, and trying some B.F.Goodrich 30deg. tires. We'll see what happens this year, but I'm also looking for some 16.9 or 18.4x38 Super All Traction tires. I have not pulled each type enough to tell from experience. Are you pulling speed limit or open class? Good luck and report how it turns out!

if they're the longbar/shortbar design, they work best with a lot of wheel speed and on anything but a hard track. Firestones in general are among the most popular tires for pullers and do well.

If they are the long bar/short bar under some combinations of weight, pressure, rim width, amount of drawbar pull, speed and ground surface type. They can make for a shaking/rocking ride.

I have a pair of all traction also, I found that they are as good as the f/r. I also have a set of f/r I pull with, can't really say which is better. both have won and lost...

Super All Tractions seem great for high horsepower, high momentum pullers. At slower ground speeds, they seem to just give up & let go. Probably due to more bars, more closely spaced. If you're pulling with a couple hundred horsepower, they seem to be the tire of choice. If you are pulling under 4 mph, hang on to you F&R's or old style Good-Year's. Dead Weight flagman.

All of the bigger farm stock tractors are running them in our area and are seeing more and more of them on the antiques. My opinion, I think they are a great pulling tire!

my dad has a set of brand new 16.9 38 super all tractions on his 730 diesel and they seem to work real well.
