WHY DO SOME PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO CHEAT TO WIN? I WAS AT A PULL YESTERDAY AND SAW PEOPLE PULL IN A CLASS LIMITED TO 1ST GEAR ONLY PULL 2 AND 3 NOT TO MENTION GOING BY THE HONOR SYSTEM ON WEIGHT. I'VE NEVER SEEN A 88 OLIVER PULL 4000# WITH CAST REAR WHEELS AND SIX 100# IH WIEGHTS ON BEFORE. THE DAY I NEED TO CHEAT TO WIN IS THE DAY I NEED TO QUIT PULLING. COME ON GUYS GIVE SOMEONE A FAIR CHANCE IT'S ALL FOR FUN ANYWAYS.

For the first time, I had felt my confidence had risen. So many things left unsaid and questions unanswered...I know better now to believe no more words but actions.

Before we get all excited and start ripping people for cheating... we need to define cheating. Maybe you were in the wrong class, maybe "farm class" or division 1 or whatever name you want to call it would be a better fit for your particular tractor. If you think about it, there are few "origional" 50+ year old tractors out there. Most have had to be overhauled at least. Many had things done years ago to help in the power department that we don't even realize were done to them.

In our area, we have some pulls that if it didn't come stock on tractor, don't bother bringing it to pull in farm stock, in other pulls, we have open tractors pulling in first gear with cut tires in the stock classes and "stock" tractors (me included) pulling in the "farm stock" classes. All I can say is, get a copy of the rules before hand, and be selective in what classes you pull your tractor.

On calling people cheaters, I have never met anyone (although there have been some who thought that they were)who is a expert on the little differances (hitches, drawbars, RPM's, tire size, rim size, wheather or not something was stock or an option on every make of tractor. While somethings seem pretty obvious, I don't know for sure if there were 2 or 3 holes in a 1946 JD G drawbar or just what does the hitch from a 1953 MM UB look like, or just what was the origional standard tire size for a IH 400? (by the way, I pull a 400 and I've seen 3 different tire sizes listed as "standard")

As long as there is a written set of rules and some sort of track official, why not just protest anybody who is suspect of being illeagal?

I am relatively new to pulling and I am only 23 years old. I bought a Farmall H and restored this winter in my spare time. The simple enjoyment of restoring that tractor and bringing to life the heritage of my family was a great satisfcation to me. Two weeks ago at a pull I took first place with a full pull vs. three other H's that were obviously not stock. My tractor is stock and I enjoy the simplicity and respect from the other pullers as they commented on the nice job that I did on the tractor. Also the satisfaction and delight that my grandfather got outta watching me make that full pull. Don't get me wrong, I want to win as much as the next guy, but in reality everyone knows who is cheating and it only hurts the respect that they get from their fellow pullers.

I do have a question for ya'll. To be classed as a 'stock' tractor what can be done to it? I still farm with the tractors I pull with and have added high altitude pistons in my SM and have LP heads on all my tractors. Is that still considered stock? All parts came from the dealer for that brand tractor. Tim

It's not just the guys on the tractors, but sometimes the guy on the sled can make or break you, happened to me twice last year in my own club, consequently I quit the club. Happened to others in the club too, most of them quit as well. No tractors = no pull, We may have lost the pull but we got our point across.

I was at that same pull yesterday that a 88 oliver in the 5000 pound class that had 10 100lbs IH weights on it I did not no that a oliver 88 is so light right out of the field! There was a couple of tractors that normally does not do to good and yesterday since they did not have no scale and did not check hitch hight a few tractors suddenly stepped up and started placing. Thats something to brag about when you half to cheat so bad to beat the other tractors in your class!!!!!

What it comes down to is the fact that when people get an inch of lead way, they will use a foot. It takes a scale, a good tech crew to watch that the other rules are met, a back bone to throw someone out that has it coming and there will be a good time by all.

sad but true,a couple of years ago our club had a certified weigh in day.everyone met at a scale and weighed their tractors empty,a few took it too far when they drained the oil out of the rear-end!if i can't win the honest way i just don't think it means anything.

Anytime there is money and or trophy and ribbons, there will be the ones that think they have to cheat to win. I used to pull Pro-Stock Garden tractors, if you think antique trator pulling is bad, try that sport out. You can get 10k wrapped up in one of those babys. Some of those guys would cheat like a B***H to win a .50 ribbon.

Thats why alot of pullers have quit pulling over the years. Some dirtball has to cheat, such as this oliver boy, such hopes he gets his jollys out of robbing some one elses trophy or prize money!!!!

Its real simple,if I go to a pull and see any thing that even resembles bending of the rules my tractor goes back on the trailer and heads home.Eventually the organizers of any future pulls get the hint.No tractors no pulls equals no money.

paul don't put it on the trailer dime the heck out of him.if your club doesn't question the cheaters then put her on the trailer. some times we the pullers have to police the rules i seen that happen when one cheater got beat by another cheater. on the mm section some one is asking some one how tight the rules are how dumb are some people

Hey MoJoe and all, I just got our STOCK class rules as well as regular ones typed up. They should be posted today or tomorrow. We'll see how long we can keep Stock Class "STOCK". It was created to ADD a certain kind of puller, but you guys know how when some folk are excluded they squeal "no fair". It drew in a lot of people last year, I hope we can keep it clean. Rules are up for discussion next year (crossing my fingers). The changes they are trying to make for 2005 really make STOCK not much difference from regular class. I guess we'll see what comes of it.

My pet peave is the starting time. To advertize a starting time and miss it by 1-2 hours is unjustifyable unless the weather has screwed up the track.
