Starting to expand my area fo pulling and will be required this next season to have safety swithches. Two of my tractors are diesels. Does any one have info on a neat not necessarily easy but functional way of air cut offs.
Am fairly mecahnically inclined, but certainly no professional.
Thanks in advance for all info.

I saw an air cutoff that was so simple. It used a rain cap with a gasket around the sealing surface and was held open by a pin. The pin was attached to a cable that ran back to the rear of the tractor where a loop was made to attach it to the sled. Pull the cable and the pin would slide out and the rain cap will come down.

Of course this setup required that the air intake be in a verticle position. If you spring loaded the setup it should function in any position.

If you use this method I would drill an extra hole that would allow you to pin the cap in the closed position as well.

Thank you for this info. Do you have any suggestions for an air cleaner using the system you described.

"88" -

What I have seen in that case, is people using large (13 or 14 inch diameter) round air filters stacked 3 high and then mounting the shut-off (as Jerry described) inside that. That should provide plenty of air filtration area and volume to fit that shut-off inside!

Guys around are area that have diesels that have to have kill switches are getting electronic solinoids and mounting them under the hood then running the fuel supply line through it. and then when you pull the kill switch then it shuts the fuel off.

Would work good until you take out a turbo seal and start running on pure oil.

And a few hard shut downs will take out a seal real quick too.

We have to have a three way valve(must be able to operate from the seat)in the line so that we can return the fuel to the tank should somthing happen. We just run a choke cable to it, pull the choke cable and it returns all fuel to the tank. In addition we must have an air shut off that is operable from the seat and as the kill switch.
