Chad what is your E-mail? I will by a recurve kit from you for a farmall 300. Chad I am running 3 5/8 flat top pistons with a propane head. Should I be running other than stock spark plugs? Under a heavy load I get black smoke like its running to rich. It didn't do that before I rebuilt the engine.

What kind of fuel are you running? Do you have trouble with fouling the plugs at all? If you do, it could be a few different items to look at., Black smoke, will come from bad fuel, too much fuel, and low voltage in the ignition,. In most cases, I have found that pump gas (87) is no good., not for making power. it has too much contaminates in it which when tried to set up fto run richer, you get lots more smoke, and other added stuff in the fuel that creates the smoke., higher octane pump fuel does do it too, but not so bad, and can make a few ponies. Also, if you have a low voltage ignition system, you cant ignite all the extra fuel you put into the engine. so an electronic conversion is almost a must. then you can handle a wider selection of different fuel. Just look at your local rules to see what the fuel specs are, and run right at the limit. Also, make sure you have the float adjustments right, and intact, sometimes the pin on the float comes apart and can really make a mess! But I don't think that is anything to worry about in this case. if you are running a minimum of 94 octane, lean out the fuel adjustment on the carb. take some fuel away, maybe a 1/4, to 1/2 a turn on the main adjustment. just enough to run smoother at full throttle. engines need a bit more fuel during a hard load on the motor, why this is,,, when you go out there and power out the engine, you can either utilize this characteristic, or do nothing with it. I see an engine dying out on the track, it is either hooked up, or just a stocker. if you have a tractor that does lug very hard, give it more fuel, you will notice a big difference in where it stops on the track. Hope this helps a bit, ChadS

ChadS; Do you think a 10.5/1 motor needs any more than 94 Octane pump gas? Motor is a AC-WD with 41/8" bore and 5" stroke, modified cam, electronic ignition, D-17 Carb.
