Can you run domed pistons on an H or M with either propane head or gas head? I am thinking about a 450 gas head for my M puller but it has domed pistons and I didn't know if the valves would hit. I am also building my H for pulling and it also has domed pistons.

Used to put modeling clay on top of piston and clamp it all together and check.

I may be wrong but I thought that the exhaust valve was open on the exhaust stroke.

I ran a 450 lp head on my Super m with IH "firecrater pistons" We figured the tapping noise was a bad lifter until the valve seat on #3 broke and crushed the piston. The pistons were hitting the valves all along. I went with M&W "add power" piston with 1/8" lower dome and everything has been good to go.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE VALVES HITTING THE TOP OF THE PISTON AS THERE IS NEVER A VALVE OFF IT'S SEAT WHEN THE PISTON IS AT TDC. DR SR

You do have to worry if the dome is taller than an IH Firecrater, which ours is. Thanks guys.

I can tell you this much,, My cousin has a M, we built 2 years ago, he put an LP head on it, it has 4 in M&W high domed pistons, stock head gasket, no clearence problems at all, but this is just one tractor wih one type of pistons, may not work for all of em, Chad

70 hp. it was 57 with an 8060 head before. It has the carb, governor, and ignition work done, I would say that with just putting on the head, it would be in the mid 60's for HP, no work done to any thing, just the head. has 185psi of compression. Good combo if you aske me, LP head N M&Ws! Chad
