How did those attending, enjoy the Big Lick Pull in Oakboro this past weekend? It was good to see a lot of pullers from several clubs. I understand it was in excess of 300 hooks.

GEB, from these posts I think everyone was pleased with CATPA.(with maybe a few exceptions) My question is, what did CATPA think of Big Lick?

Myself and everyone I talked to really enjoyed it and look forward to returning to a great facility and sponsor. My only probem I had was a hard track on Saturday (but every one pulled on the same track) and getting home at midnight on Sunday night. I won't be able to be there in June but sure hope to return in July.

The pull was great and an excellent track and facility. At least they were checking RPM's and hitch height when we came off the track. With the "other" club last year I do believe some hitches was almost belt buckle high and were never checked. I do wish that the truck and some Hot Farm pullers would learn to be ready to back into the sled when it comes by instend of making a "Grandstand show" of driving halfway down the track before backing up and taking so much time. I had a wise old gentleman to tell me he could stop that by deducting a foot or so from their distance when they did that. Good idea, something to think about. Looking forward to the June pull.

Things happen a little faster at 16 to 20 mph than the do at 3.5. You had better make sure you are straight and ready before you hook. The transmission on my tractor locked in park on the hill, I apologize for the few minutes it took me to get on the track.

I had a great time it was a nice pull I only wish the rule book had been looked at a few times through the day,I didn't pull the classes I am talking about but I tought it was unfair to others.I look forward to going back.

LW, email with the concerns you are talking about and I will assure you I will get it to the right person(s). The 4500 super class was not a fair class because two tractors pulled before it started raining (one of which was mine) and the other tractors didn't have a equal chance because of the slick track. My tractor got second and I will assure you I don't have a Super Stock Tractor. I along with some others just pulled to give them enough hooks to have a good show on Sunday. I wished they had pulled that class over but yhey tried to get as much done as fast as possible due to the weather.

Gary I like pulling with Catpa but TomS pretty much covered the things I was talking about, the farm classes were the main things that got me the guy out there with a stock puller or a farm tractor ain't got a chance and I got a smarta$$ answer when I questioned it and the new tech guy didn't even know the rules for 8500lb a 18.4 is the max with no front cut and a 24.5X32 cut pulled in the class that ain't right I wish you would call me and I will tell you the rest,Lawrence (910) 673 3505

Problems do occure but maybe things will work out. I am going to print this entire thread and give it to the "head honchos" and maybe they can work on the problems. Sometime a "problem" that seems trival to one might be a major concern to someone else, so each one needs to be attended to.

I will tell you what I seen.. GVI super pulling under 8000#. Seen a Oliver w/detroit pulling in farm class with cut tires. I haven't pulled with catpa, but have been considering it and have studied the rules. Besides that I thought everything went great. There may have been other things I didn't see. I did hear a comment from the tech man that was checking kill switches and such. Some guy complained about the cut tires in farm class and he said " If your not pulling in that class, why do you care?" then nothing was done about the problem. I guess he just didn't care. I would have e-mailed, but your e-mail is blocked.

SORRY TOM , THAT WAS ME PULLING THE GVI IN THE 7000 LB SUPER CLASS . I DID NOT KNOW THERE IS A RULE AGAINST IT . I THOUGHT THAT IF YOU COULD MAKE THE WEIGHT , YOU CAN PULL THE CLASS. THE GVI WEIGHED 6980 LBS WITH NO WEIGHTS AND A 230 LB HOGGE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. IN CASE YOU DID NOT NOTICE, THAT OLD BAD BOY OLIVER OUT PULLED THE GVI IN THE 7000 SUPER. I SURE DID HAVE A GOOD TIME AND LOOK FORWARD TO PULLING AGAIN WITH CATPA . I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO CHECK THE RULES BEFORE SELECTING WEIGHT CLASSES TO ENTER .I DID NOT INTEND TO OFFEND ANYONE ,IT'S ALL IN FUN ANYWAY ,THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT . THANK YOU, DANNY HOGGE

Was the GVI pulling in a stock class? If so I think that is legal according to the rules but it wouldn't be in the super class. If I'm wrong please correct me.

Must be a new tech man because the tech man that I know would have never done that. I haven't pulled with them this year so I'm not sure if it would be the same guy.

The CATPA folks did a great job, and I know a lot of them drove a long way to pull at Big Lick. Looking forward to the next pull.

Thanks again, John Hinson
