From the looks of my flywheel wobbling around I have a bent crank. Can I have it straightened or should I just have a new one made. Im not worried about cost I just want it to hold up . Whats your opinions on the matter? Plus I have 2 weeks till my 1st pull.

Have a JD G with a 9.75 stroke that had the same problem. The first time we broke the crank, we noticed a lot of movement in the clutch pulley. After tearing down the tractor we found that the main bearing housing on the clutch side was broke. Only after disconnecting the rods and taking off the main bearing were we aware of the break. Crankshaft dropped right down in two pieces into the crankcase. Thank god it could have been alot worse! Approximately three years later we bent the next one and again broke the main bearing housing on the clutch side. Tried to have it staightened, but is wasn't feasible. Had a new crank made and a piece machined to strengthen the main bearing housing on the clutch side. Needless to say, we bent another crankshaft; but didn't break the main bearing housing. Out of frustration, my dad covered it up in the back of the shop for a year and didn't look at it again. The following February, we pulled the cover off and starting working on installing a new 9.75 crank and 7.50 Jerry's block. Thirteen days into February, after working of the tractor in the shop; my sixty-one year old father walked into the house and died of a heart attack. Needless to say I haven't been able to look or work on the tractor since.

is the end play set with the fly wheel on the 70 like they are done on the letter series? I had an A that wobbled, and I learned that it was the end play was not set right. ????? Chad

Tyler, pull the rods off and inspect those journals closely! I just had a G do the same thing your 70 is doing. I noticed some flywheel wobble thought it would be ok for another pull WRONG! Tractor ran good got half way down track started laboring very hard and died. I torn down found crank cracked on #1 & #2 journals and broke main bearing housings. So don't make the mistake I did check that crank!

Tyler ,If its a Deere you have, usually the crank is broke when the flywheel has a lot of run out. Tear it down a look at #1 rod throw radius. Good luck I wouldn't run it. Earl

Earl,
Yes its a Deere. A JD70 with a 9.5 stroke. I looked at the #1 side of the crank and couldnt see anything so I put it back together. It is still knocking real hard through the clutch pulley and the flywheel seems to have more wobble than when I first put it together. When I adjust the end play on the crank the flywheel is perfect but after it runs I have no end play and the engine stops very suddenly ( no roll). The flywheel wont rock back and forth it acts like its stuck. I have new pistons and rings with about 18 thousanths clearance (7 in bore). I dont know what else to look for.
