I tore the engine down yesterday on that old 70 and found a huge crack that ran almost completley around the #1 journal. It looks as if it started to go up into the weld also. What gave it away was a bad scrape in my rod insert. So I went to the crank to see what could have made such a mark and there it was. Now for the big QUESTION, Where do I find a crank with less than 2 weeks till our first points pull? 9.5 CRANK

Tyler, The only chance you have making that kind of stroke to last is a 3/8 to 1/2 in radius in the crank.Has to be real smooth. Narrowed rod.Relieved brg to match radius. How long did that crank last????Was it balanced ?? Earl In Illinois

Campbell Crankshaft in Kansas City could probably do one that quick for you. It won't be cheap ($1400ish for a 9.500"), but it will be good quality. This is the same shop that Schooler uses. Hope this helps.

You could call Schooler or Merfield or even Jerry's Welding to see what they might have laying around.(All their numbers are in the Hook.) If they can't help or someone on this board can't give anymore leads to one, then your pretty much SOL. Hope it all comes together for you, but it's about slim and none on getting one that large that quick. You JD pullers need all the luck you can get.

My mistake. I assumed an OLIVER 70. I read your earlier messages. Duh...9.5" Oliver 70? I should have guessed not. Good luck on your John Deere Tyler! I don't happen to have one of those laying around unfortunately.
