I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the 460 gas engine. I bought a 1986 F 350 dullie with a flat bed, 460 engine, and 4 speed trans. Truck has 121,000 miles but I don't know any history about it. This is a caburatored system and seems to have good power. Just wondering about the reliabilty of this engine. Thanks, Dave S.

I've got a '77 F250 with a 460-4.10 rear end and C6 Tranny. It pulls real good, but it should, it uses lotsa gas, but I guess all big block gassers do. I get 10 mpg empty trailer, 7 mpg trailer loaded with 6200 John Deere G driving 55(plus a little)mph. It's been real dependable for 6+ years..Only problem, it vapor locked pulling Sherman Grade in Wyoming at 90 degree day.

I have a 89 f450, 460 5spd, it will pull our 35 ft gooseneck with 20,000 on it no prblem, does like gas though, thinking of installing a cummins to make a really great truck out of it. I have had it for sale, hate to see it rust.

Well unlike everybody else I have had nothing but bad luck with the Ford we used to have. It was a 96 with a EFI 460. One thing after another went bad. Plus the motor didnt impress me any. I went from a 6.5 turbo diesel dully to it. We haul a Oliver super 88. 8500 pounds plus 5000 pound trailer. Both had 4.10 rear ends. The 6.5 pulled the hill 42-45mph starting 60 at the bottom. The ford with the same run pulled up 25-30mph. Then we had trans problems with the Ford. Now we have Dodge 5.9 Cummins. Pulls the hill at 60 and will gain but has had a "little" work done to it. Stock it was about 40-45mph.

We used an old 1980 F-350 with a 460 automatic, for years towing pullers all over the place. Granted, had plenty of power, ended up putting a 75 gallon fuel tank in the bed, and kept on trucking!! Sure do miss that truck some times, It was an old tire shop truck, and had an air compressor in the bed, tool boxes. Made about 6 or 7 trips to Hartford KY over the years with it, got better gas milage than my Chevy 3/4 4X4 (89 model) I bought a 93 F-350 a few months ago, 7.3 with a 5 speed. I was at the fuel station yesterday,, and almost got in trouble,, laughing a bit too loud, filled up for $1.48 gas was $2.09!! HE HE HE!! It does have good power, not like the 460,, but the milage is livable too. ChadS

I have a 1990 with a 460 gas engine with 95,000 miles that I use for my tractor hauler. The truck works great and will haul anything. 10.5 mpg empty and 7.5 to 8.0 mpg hauling 14,000 lbs.

You might have to buy a gas station to feed it,but other then that I think you will be ok.

My 94 model 4x4 with 4:10 and E4OD trans.pulls two 7500 lb. tractors down the highway very nicely cruising at 65-70 mph. 168K on it, just installed new Jasper tranny but the engine is still doing great. Not sure if I want to go to a diesel.

We had one. Had good power, loved gas, That is until a rod ventilated the block.
