Took my G block to shop to bore, and they said the water pits would not clear up at .125, but .250 would. Is there any pistons for this size, .125 is all i see advertised, or is this to thin for the cylinder walls. Any ideas, thanks Ken.

If you don't tell anyone, it will run fine with the bores true and round with a few pits here and there at 125 thou overbore. What compression are you looking for?

as far the other guy's reply of "that's an eighth of an inch, yeah, it's an eighth, but only a sixteenth all the way around! Anyway, there are pistons out there. Call Hinrichs repair in Illinoise, Triple G service in New York, or Polk Equip. No need to have these custom made.Cost will probably be about 5-6oo dollars. A G block will easily handle an overbore of .250.

And a sixteenth of an inch is a deep pit. My block was already .045" over and had some pretty nasty pits that easily cleaned up at .125". If it were mine, I'd have the machine shop go ahead and bore to the rough bore size needed for .125" over on the off chance that it would clean up there before spending an extra $200 for .250" over pistons when .125" over might do it - if your price estimates are correct. We just got in a set of .125" "70" all-fuel pistons in from Hinrichs, so I know the going price for those. How much are the .250"s again?

I believe that you can have some built but that is 800+ dollars a set. I believe .250 over is about the biggest you can go though. know a guy with 6.375 bore and 8" stroke...good running tractor.

You must have craters in your bores, not pits. I can't imagine one that wouldn't clean up at .125" over. That's an eighth of an inch, after all. Can you get a second opinion from another machine shop?

The pits were preety deep in one cylinder, it sat for a long time with the piston about three quarters up and full of water. The other cylinder was not to bad, don't know why one was so bad and not the other. He mentioned a liner he could put in it, but i don't know the cost of that yet. I will check on pistons before they go any further. Thanks, Ken.

Yes, the block could be sleeved back to standard, but that's pretty pricey when dealing with those big bores. I just think you could potentially save yourself some money by having the block rough-bored (not finish-honed to final size) to see just what oversize you'll need. .250"s are definitely going to be more money than .125"s, but it's your checkbook.

pricey no doubt, and it's almost impossible to get the sleeve to seal. also I've heard of G blocks bored out .300 over stock. Not sure where they got the pistons on that one. Those who bore out .250 over generally use some type of aircraft piston.

Yes, it's to pricey for my checkbook. Gonna cut it .125 and see how it looks, and go from there. Thanks again for warning me of the price of those 250 pistons, Ken.
