What tractor contains the best pulling potential for the least invested in engine work? I like the interchangeable M-M parts. What machines work best for us cheap sons of guns on a budget? Your thoughts fellas....

That depends on where you are, what classes you want to pull and what the specific rules are regarding parts swapping. Any tractor can be made to be a strong competitor if you put enough time and/or money in it. But doing a bunch of swapping and modifying doesn't do much good if it's not legal to pull.

this is true, just finished building a WD w/ an E Gleaner motor that is stock, excellent little puller and very, very cheap build!

I've got one of the lowest dollar pullers on the track. MM U. It's still competitive, and for a whole lot less money than the tractors it runs against.

Had a MH 44 that I pulled a couple years ago. Won the 4500 div 2 points race for the local club with a tractor that was basically stock, complete with power steering, hydraulics, fenders, pto, etc. Classes averaged around 20 tractors.

More than likely, no, we would not have the trouble we have now with the sled, if they were all Case. Have you noticed, and I am sure you have, that these particular tractors,, the M's have kinda set the sled up for a heavier tractor? How long has it been, since we have seen the sled in low gear, for a class under 4500? just this year. If those M's had to pull like a lighter tractor, they would not be a happy camper!! But, go with the flow?? or go for change?? Puzzling. My gripe, is that we have no spoke person for classes under lets say 5000 lbs, and looky what has occurred. Ya got to be over 5000, just to get a decent distance, or percentage. At one time, there were just as many light pullers, as the heavy, now the light pullers are being left behind, forced to move up classes, if they choose to be competitive. Yes, this will be my complaint every time I will have a chat with a board member,, ya think they will listen?? I do agree 100 percent with you, the 5 M's would have a bit of trouble in a world full of DC cases, in our club.

MM, possibilites are endless,, Oliver,, if you want HP, and got $$$,, big HP potential,, IH,, well ya always have a Binder attitute when you set one up for a puller, great balance, weight where you need it. Massey is a good choice too, they can run with the M,s with a stroker,, JD, well it is a JD,, takes alot of $$ and knowledge on tuning them, and ya got something good. For a starter tractor,, MM, OL, IH, MH, JD, ya can throw in a Ford in there somewhere,, they all have wonderful potential,, the feeling, a puller gets, when he starts at the back of the pack, does his homework,, and soon beats us all in a few pulls, he has the biggest grin,, great feeling!! well, deere is ok if you're staying pretty much stock, but if you start to build, you wallet gets thin quick. oliver, moline, farmall are more reasonable. moline does have the best interchangeable parts.

Yeah, that wa my theory. The 403 is not in mine yet but I probably have $1500 in to the engine and tractor. I have high hopes for speed limit classes.
