Is it possible to build a two cylinder John Deere that can compete with Olivers and Farmalls in a open 5 mph class. If so, what would have to be done.

Just keep in mind that because it's a 5 mph class does not mean you HAVE to be able to run 5 mph to compete. If you build a good strong tractor, set it up right and can drive it right, you could win a 5 mph class at 2.5 mph. It's not how fast you go, it's how far you go, or they'd call it tractor racing instead of tractor pulling.

Last summer I watched a late production JD B, in first gear, a division one tractor, beat "all the big boys" in the 5500 class at a good pull in upstate NY.

You are so correct. It ain't how fast, it is how far. This, guy mentioned above, read the track just right, and at 1.5 MPH hauled it the farthest that day.

Our Unstyled A has beat alot of Wk-40, 460, 88, 77 in 5 mph 4500 to 5500 classes. It depends on the track more than anything. We run in 2nd gear in all class which is alittle over 4mph, it still stay with avery one else.

I published a story by: David Wickman in Old Power Pride June issue about "Yellow Jacket" and "Double Trouble", two unstyled B's. I had spoke to some people that have seen them pull in 4 mph modified class and they are very tough to beat from what they tell me. He has bored and stroked both of them and he tells what he put in them and how far he went. E-mail me your address and I will send you a free June issue.

Casepower... how can I get a copy.. (I'll send U an email.)
I have driven both of his tractors.. They have figured out the tricks to those little tractors... The Yelow Jacket has been together for a long time with no problems and is still very competitive. JDGnut

It was late as we had to reprint. Should have it anytime. Bulk rate mail is slow anyway. If you don't get it in a few days e-mail me.
