.003 to .004 feeler gage between the piston and sleeve is good. I don't use any thing I can more than .010 down the side in the 3 1/4" to 4" pistons. The bigger pistons like for JD A's and B's .005 to .008 . I don't know what the outter limits are on them.

Mr. Blair I put a set of Alum. Pistons in a "G" and the supplier recommended a min of ten thous. for Alum. Piston,on my puller with custom piston I run a clearance of eighteen thousands with total seal rings. Might not be a bad idea to check with piston suppler and see what they recommend, might save you some ack and pains. Gman

Gman is right...On aluminum piston allow .001 per inch of piston diam. A 6.5 inch piston will have .013 total clearance. I.E...6.5" diam times .001 equals .0065, .0065 times 2 (point A to B across bore) equals .013. This formula generally works across the board, but check the data with each piston manufacturer.
