I have come across a completely rebuilt Detriot 671 Diesel motor, equipped with a brand new turbo. I am wondering how I can get this 300 h.p. diesel into a tractor and what it will take. If anyone has any info on what type of tractor I can fit this into and where I can get a frame, rear end, and tin work, I would appreciate the help. Thanks. Ryan

A "N" series four valve 6-71 will make 300HP with stock N80 injectors at 2300 rpm without the turbo will still be within factory spec. That 6T-71 (turbo) should go 400HP before an intercooler is required. The main reson for the turbo on some Detroits was to save HP by not turning the blower under load to scavenge the cylinders. A bypass door opens and routes the intake air past the blower when under "boost".

Brown tag 65 injectors were stock for the 8V-71, 318 and 6-71, 238. With the turbo the 75 injector was stock. An 80 injector, without a turbo is going to smoke!!. The turbo set up on my 318 has no "bypass" door which you referenced. The 6-71T I have seen did not have one either. Are you attempting to describe a waste gate?

As for the tractor to use, 5010s and 5020s were popular for such repowers. The torque out of these motors is massive.

N50's were OK on the non turbo 53 series according to the factory on fire trucks. True they were a little much and N45's are prefered there. A N80 on a four valve head 71 "N" series with the blower 5% over driven and a free flowing intake and exhaust isn't too smokey. True they won't past the emissions particulate test. More of a marine and military power rating. There are bypass doors on some of those blowers. Not a waste gate between the engine and turbo to limit the turbocharger's turbine side power. The turbo on Detroits was as much to reduce power draw by the blower while cylinder scavaging. As they were to improve cylinder filling.

Wouldn't the weight of this motor make it to heavy to be a good puller?

What did this motor come out of? I was curious because I know for on the road purposes, the motor was only available up to 270 h.p. Marine applications were higher I'm sure. Was just curious if that was where it came from.

what are you going to put this in,saw one in a 4010 and input shaft kept snapping off this is too much power for most 2wheel drive tractors. but it would make a nice show tractor good luck post a photo

How Large is a Case LA? I am familiar with John Deere and Internationals? The motor that I have is too long for a regular frame, I think? Let me know some more, if you would.

There was a company that converted the LA using the Detroit engine before Case put their diesel on the market (Case 500). The transmission case was redrilled to match the 3-71 bell housing, and they used a adpater for the front axle.If you use a 4-71 6-71 you will need to make the hood longer.
