Air pressure in tires

I just switched tires on the pulling tractor. I went from 16-9 x 34 on 12" rims to 18-4 x 34 on 16" rims. Both sets of tires are Firestone F & R. I was running 15 psi in the 16-9's and was wondering how much I should drop the air pressure in the 18-4's. I have 12psi. in them now and the first pull with these tires will be this Saturday. I will be pulling in the 7500 and 8500 stock classes. I would appreciate any advice.

Joel, What I do to find a starting point is hook a chain the approximate length of your most pulled skid to a big tree in the approx heigth of the skids pulling point, weight the tractor as if you were pulling that class. Turn (spin) the tires just enough to move some dirt away, un hook the tractor and check the bottom of the hole, if it is concaved you need less pressure, if it is convexed you need to add some air. You want it to be a flat bottomed hole. Once that has been determined you may also want to check the tires for over all runout to see if they are tracking the same circumference, by placing a mark at the bottom of both tires and then making 10 revolutions to see how much different they are. There is a major difference in tire size with the same ammount of air in them, I know I do it for a living! That is my .02 on checking pressure and making a tractor pull even, and has worked for me! No, but I work on troubled vehicles that have steering, and traction problems, just used some of my schooling to set up or 10 pulling tractors. Try the circumference thing on used tires, you will be amazed. To correct this the right way they should be ran on a buffer made for insalling the recap tread, we also do this, so I have perfect tires. Chad
