I could do with some advice, I am taking my 6030 to my first tractor pull over here in the UK on Sunday (18th) and was wondering what gear do you guys run in and what about tire pressures etc.? I am only entering the "farmers class" so there is no speed or rev limit it is just for standard tractors. The rear tires are not ballasted (yet) and have good tread, as for the engine it dynos at 230 so should have enough power ! I don't want to blow the motor so will be keeping the revs down. ANY advice welcomed, I will let you know how I did.

I will agree with the 5th gear for sure. Most 4020 pullers are running 3rd & 4th. You should have plenty of power for 5th. 20 psi sounds a bit tight on the tires, but every track is different and requires different pressure. I usually like to run a little more pressure on a hard track and a little less on a soft track. You should probably be between 15 & 18 psi depending on what tires you have and track conditions.

Good luck and most importantly have fun!

Hi Chris,

Good luck on your pull next sunday. I also go this sunday to my first pull with my 6030. I live in the Netherlands.
Yesterday I've nearly finished the restoration of my tractor. Only have to put some decals on.

I have the same questions as you. I've decided to have a look at the track and I'd go for second or third gear. I'm pulling in the 7500kg class. I've 20.8-38 duals and I'm planning to leave them on.

Good luck for you on sunday and when I've figured out how to post a picture I will put one on from my tractor.

Greetings Mark

More likely to blow the engine or twist something off if down and lugging at peak torque rpms of 1400-1600 rpm. Keep it at rated HP rpm in the 2100 to 2500rpm range. Get the drawbar at max legal height. The front end is heavy and if the track is loose the drawbar will need to be set long. Tire pressure depends on many factors. What size is on there now?

Hey Chris, the bug finally bit ya huh? I don't pull anything near that big but I would say try no more than 2nd gear. That is about all any of the old farm stocks here will go up to in the antiques anyway. Hehe heck if that doesn't work pay to hook again and go in 1st!

What weight will you be pulling it in? You'll likely need serious air pressure to keep the tires from squatting too much, maybe around 20. Just depends on weight class, track, sled, etc.

The Stan Johnson connection's a good call----I'm suprized you guy's didn't tell 'em about the old windshield washer motor, alcohol and water trick, serious cheap horsepower, if it don't 'belch' when you shut it down, and give you away!!! One of the gang told me this spring to shut up, buy a smoker and be happy---I took him to heart, bought me a 5020 with a 619 motor in Kansas this weekend, looking for a tricycle front end and a windshield washer kit now---50% ought to get me 7th gear at 11,000 lbs--I'll let you all know if the head gasket approves!!
