I recently got a 1958 Cockshutt 550 gas. Spent $3000 on the engine rebuild, Chevy pistons, 427 valves..the works..It blew up my compression guage. Anyway at the first pull with the stock hitch i completely spun out bad, hitch was at 16" so the next week i build a nice adjustabe hitch and it's a 20" and i run in the classic and open (5500-6500) put 1200lbs of wieght on the back and in 3rd gear spun out and took last with the front coming way off the ground. Than in the open i tried 4th gear and went a little farther but lost power. This tractor should be pushing out aproximatly 70 horse now. My tires are 14.9-38 and they are the wavey lug. I hear they are not good for pulling. What do you guys think. I think this tractor should get close to top places everytime..... I dont' think I have it set up right yet....any help would be great. THanks

Jim, I am looking for any help I can get on making my 550 cockshutt pull. I keep coming up short against the Farmalls. We run in the 550 & 6500 lbs. classes. Been doing okay on clay tracks but terrible on the blacktop tracks. Any advise would be appreciated.

Jim, Have you done any intake or carburator work to you 560? I would like to put a bigger carb on my 550. We added about 25 cubic inches when we rebuilt it and have not done anything to the carb. Any advise would be appreciated.
