Remeber a while back there was a post about lightening up a JD G? I was lookin through the noew hook magazine, and I think Ifound the tractor I was talking about that has installed or made a pressed steel frame off an A to fit the G,, on page 28 the yellow and black Deere at the top of the page. If memory serves, I seen this tractor down in Hartford KY, there was a pair of em at the time, an A and a G same owners,, I think this one in the photo is one of his tractors, or sold it,, I think this one is the A,,, the G was simular to this one,, the exhaust pipe made me think it was from the same group that built the G I had seen. The G may have had dual pipes out the sides though,, I know I have that G on film somewhere,, I know it is not a bolt on thing to do,, interesting to se that A in the Hook. LOL ChadS

I am looking into a G down the road from here, old fence row special, perfect for a modified tractor, it has a power block in it, no head, carb manifold etc,, I think it is an older G, it is styled, electric start. never looked at the serial #. I think a G, with huge cubic inches, and lite, would be an awesome puller, not like that one that broke in 2 in the HOOK, How he got that one in 4000, hard to say, it is all about the weight. Chad

Did you ever find the picture of this G that you say has an A frame on it????? A 4000-4500lb (G frame included), 900+ci G does sound like a fun project. It will require a lot more carburator than you have ever put on a tractor and something besides a stock G-70 cam to make it work though.

Yes, Just trying to figure out how to get the picture from the video, to here. Wonder is Shellum(??) got his G back together. the one that broke in two. Oh yeah, it would be a blast, especially in a percentage pull,,,, Lot of weight onthe rear of those tractors, much more than an H, or maybe an M. But, could the torque of the engine be controlled at that cubic inch, and weight. Chad

Chad, I know the guy that built that tractor and the black one like it. They are both A's. The same guy used to have a G, but it had a G frame on it. I still dont think you can get a pressed steel frame on a G.

anything is possible I guess,, were they all out of ILLINOIS?? I will look back at the Hartford tapes I have,, and the results to find a pic or location,, The reason I am so interested in this, is when I was in Hartford, there was a G JD in the 4500 lb class, and it was a screamer. I watched him get teched, and it was sitting outside the building, seen it upclose,, weirdest looking JD i have seen. I am postitive it had a G rear, crank case, engine, and from the rest was an A, Let me find it the pic,, I know I have it,, maybe a different one,,, I just recognized the exhaust pipe on the A in the Hook, the G had two of them,, let me see,,, if it is an A I will drop it,, if it is a G,,,,, then what?? LOL ChadS

Yes, they were out of Illinois, but I dont know where they are now as they have all been sold. If we are talking about the same G, I know it could make 4500 with LIGHT 15.5x38 tires (not deep treads) and the G frame. Also, it wasnt a real big engine.....it looked alot meaner than it was, but it could still hold its own. This could have changed since the tractor changed hands, I do not know. This tractor had an exhaust pipe like the A's on each side, and a B hood (easiest way for you to tell in a picture is count the grill slots and if it has only 7, its a B hood). If thats the wierdest Deere you've seen, then you dont get out much, lol.
