What size tires are you running?

I don't know it for a fact, but I've heard that if you get thepulley gear and first reduction gear from a 70 diesel, that will reduce your ground speed.

That is correct although if you have Live PTO you will have to bevel the inside of the pulley gear to gain enough clearance to get the pulley to run where it is supposed to, you will lose some ground speed but not a great deal though I'm guessing you might go from 2-1/3 mph to 2 mph and also you will have to remove the oil slinger gear in the bottom of the reduction cover

Sounds like an awful lot of work! Much easier to just buy a 720/730 to pull with. I love the 70s, but I wouldn't have one for pulling. To pull light enough to accomodate that high gearing, you can't balance them very well.
