Building a 1922 Fordson F puller. Has anyone had any experience with the worm and wheel drive. Any guesses on the percentage of power loss compared to ring and pinion/bull gear drive?

Sold it! It"s now in Pa. and from what I hear, doing very good. I am now starting on a 1922 Fordson. Planning on 340 cubes. Adding electric start, force feed oil, brakes, governor, water pump, distributor, rubber tires, header, fabricated manifold, and all them good things that Fordsons never had. Planning on 3000# class with 18.4x 38" tires. I am doing all of it in "Old Power Pride Magazine" from start to finish. When it"s done everyone will know what it cost and what"s in it. I will also publish the results with pictures of the first pull in the magazine.

No personal experience but my dad, who grew up around Fordsons, talks about the heat and noise those rear ends made. So I imagine the power loss is significantly more. I'd think modern oils/oil additives would help a lot in reducing friction. Maybe even going to synthetic-how many quarts does it hold?! When one of those pesky oil salesmen comes around bragging that his product "reduces friction, runs cooler, adds horsepower, blah, blah, blah" tell him "Here's a Fordson; prove it!"
