I am pulling a "stock" Super M. Here is my problem. I was running ok but decided to try some changes I read about. Last year I drilled out my carburator as per the instructions often outlined on this site that worked very well. This year converted to Pretronix electronic igniton with there 40K coil. The problem I just encountered is the spark plugs do not have the nice cocoa color we all like. The tractor runs good pulls ok if I was just farming around with it it would be fine but I am hoping for more. I am running Champion 4130 plugs at .030. I don't have a dyno I usually adjust the carb untill I get some black smoke and then turn it in a little. I have been using pump gas Sunoco 93. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You

Use solid core wires and the non resisitor 3116 version of the 386. Likely your tractor is idleing cool and rich while waiting for it's turn to pull. Working tractors don't have this problem.

THROW AWAY THOSE CHAMPION SPARKPLUGS AND USE AUTOLITE #386 AND GAPPED THEM TO .050, I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND WORKS GREAT

One thing i had to do to my m when i installed the electronic ignition was do away with the ballast resistor. It seemed to help. Another thing you might try is to run autolite 3116 plugs. Thats how mine is set up and it runs great. Also did you readjust the timing? Hope this helps.

The coil was the resistor type so the ballast resistor is gone. How should I readjust the timeing, Advance?
Thank You
