how big can you go on these engines and has anyone
put a turbo on one? I think it's a 260 stock, is there a larger bolt on engine?

That 262 is a solid engine. A friend of mine put one together years ago. Put a beefy cam and a 7040 Allis turbo on it. Ran around 150 horse. Called it the Orange Crush. He ended up selling it to somebody down south a few years ago.

It's a 262 Buda. They used the same engine in the D19, but with a turbo added on the latter. It has the same bore/stroke combination as the 262 gas used in the gas D19's. I also think the diesel has a Lanova type head - which uses a precombustion chamber, unlike direct injection, as more modern engines use. You can increase the fuel and pressure, but I don't think it'll get out and run unless you add a turbo. It's not a large block, either, and won't handle a large overbore. Some have gone 4" on the gas 262's, but haven't heard if there are reliability problems. If there are any, I would think 16:1 compression and higher of a diesel engine would magnify the problems.

There is one D-17 D that pulls in our deadweight club, it has a turbo on it,, very strong engine set up like this I think,,,, good smooth running engine, soft torque curve too, dont know anything else about it,, but it is a winner!! my 2 cents worth, ChadS
