Is there anything that eats copper and not steel? Crankshaft journal is burnt and covered with berring material, I sanded it smooth but still copper in the grooves. Don't have time to take it out and have it ground and checked. Thanks in advance

Muriatic Acid will work. Does a good job taking off the bearing material and nothing else. Cheap too. Just brush it on, let it sit a minute or two and clean it off, re-apply as needed.

The fellow in a hurry never has time to do it right the first time, but has time to do it over and over again.

If the crank spun a bearing, it needs to be reground or the same thing will happen again in a very short time. The rod most likely needs to be reconditioned as well.

Bore solvent in reply to Troubled, 09-07-2004 19:10:23
Drop by your local gun store. There are several different solvents that will get rid of non-ferrous deposits without hurting the steel.
