They were called red diamond engines, built by IHC,had nothing to do with Diamond T.RD-406 had a 1 bbl. carb,RD-450 had a 2 bbl. carb,RD 501 had a 4 bbl carb, extremely high torque gas engines in there day.Used in all IHC heavy truck applications including hiway semis back in the gas job days.

Try the American Truck Historical Society at www.aths.org to connect with some knowledgeable Diamond T people.

That is a IHC 501 engine. Here in Illinois they have put some in 460 & 560 IHC.

Grandpa has a 500 cu. in. I-6 GMC motor in his old 1956 GMC Semi-Truck in the weeds. Always wondered what one would do with such a beast. He said it either went forward, dug down, or broke something. Was not too gas friendly either. Good motor. Diamond T? Don't know much about them, but I bet it's a horse. Putting it in a tractor perhaps?
